Overview

The BD Knowledge Portal for Medication Technologies is an intuitive, web-based analytics application that provides visibility of the medications stored across a hospital’s Pyxis™ medication management solution devices.

The Brief

With the portal moving to a cloud-hosted infrastructure, the team wanted an engaging way of presenting the benefits of this move to the portal’s users while also providing a reassuring reminder of the BD commitment to cybersecurity.

It's all in the details

Our longstanding relationship with BD meant that our team had an established understanding of BD Pyxis™ solutions, which stood us good stead to start thinking about how we could communicate the subject matter in an intuitive way.

Our Account Manager provided an example of an iPDF in the new brand style that we’d worked up for a previous BD design project. The BD Pyxis™ team loved the modern, dynamic look and feel — it was over to our design experts to bring their creative flair to this new project!

The solution

Once we’d digested the content PowerPoint provided, we worked in close collaboration with the BD team to offer suggestions on how to structure the document in a user-friendly way. As the content had been provided by multiple contributors, we took time to copy edit and proofread the document in full to establish a consistent tone of voice. We also wrote fresh copy for two pages of the iPDF, ensuring we maintained that same style.

Once the structure had been clearly defined and the content firmed up, we approached the design in two phases. To get the ball rolling, our Middleweight Designer — and BD Brand Guardian — harnessed their in-depth knowledge of the BD brand to build the template. The reins were then handed to our Designer to carry out the second phase: creating the finished product.

To make the reading experience as engaging as possible, our team built in responsive buttons and click-throughs throughout the document. Bright, eye-catching infographics were also used to convey key information in an appealing way, along with clear colour coding to create visually defined sections.

Once complete, there was one thing left to do: launch! To assist with the iPDF’s release, we created copy and visuals for a pair of LinkedIn posts to help promote the iPDF and its important message.

Result

The time spent on initial preparations, along with our established understanding of the BD brand, meant that the project execution was streamlined, efficient and successful. The BD team were delighted with both the design and our overall approach to helping shape the document.
