Overview

The World Association of Nuclear Operators (WANO) is an international group of nuclear power plant operators, dedicated to nuclear safety. WANO unites every company and country in the world that has an operating commercial nuclear power plant dedicated to achieving the highest possible standards of nuclear safety.

Every two years, WANO host their BGM for their regional centres and members to attend and share information, best practices and experiences.

The Brief

The initial brief came in as an overview of AV requirements for various conference sessions taking place at the BGM – these included the plenary conference for 500 delegates, awards ceremony and gala dinner for 700 delegates and a range of five smaller meetings ranging from 20 – 100 delegates, all spanning across three days.

As the project developed, we received further requests for a bespoke exhibition stand to be positioned in the foyer outside the plenary, as well as support for the branding of the registration desk area.

It's all in the details

Working with WANO’s communications and event team, we supported them with full AV specification and budgets for each element of the BGM.

We created floor plans of each event space, with an overview of the overall venue showing which room was in use at which time, and in what set-up.

Working with their existing visual identity for the event, we created supporting artwork for the plenary set, registration desk and exhibition stand to show a cohesive design across the whole BGM.

The solution

The plenary featured a triple-screen set spanning a total of 38m (w) x 5m (h), including large-format prints of the event logo and a fret-cut design of their iconic London skyline imagery, as well as full AV spanning audio, video, lighting, truss and rigging.

Breakouts featured audio and video, including wireless push-to-talk microphones operating over WiFi.

Simultaneous translation was in action across five of the seven sessions, with a total of 11 translation booths offering five languages for international delegates.

The exhibition stand design was a 15m x 4m raised white floor with four 3m (w) x 3m (h) stations offering delegates information about specific aspects of WANO’s work.

Result

Across a busy three days, the BGM ran smoothly in all areas, with roughly 550 delegates from over 30 countries and areas attending.

Feedback was comprehensively positive, with great engagement at the exhibition stand and in the conference alike.

I just wanted to thank you all for your hard work on this year’s BGM. […] I’ve been overwhelmed by how much positive feedback I’ve already heard from so many delegates about the event.
